Florence P. Gorelick, 96, of Hollywood, Fla., formerly of Scranton and Chapman Lake, died Wednesday afternoon at the Hampton Court Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, North Miami Beach, Fla. Her husband, Bernard "Ben" Gorelick, died June 11, 2002.
Born in St. Augustine, Fla., daughter of the late David E. and Lena Vitebsky Price, Florence completed nursing school at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City. Her career included service as a World War II Army registered nurse and a first lieutenant. Before retirement, she was employed by Head Start as a nurse from 1968-1970 and a teacher's aide for the Northeastern Education Intermediate Unit No. 19 from 1970-1981.
Florence was a former member of Temple Israel and the Jewish Community Center, Scranton, a life member of Hadassah and a member of the Jewish Community Center and the American Legion Post 948 in Hallendale, Fla.
She is survived by three sons, Dr. David Gorelick and wife, Susan, Solana Beach, Calif.; Aaron J. Gorelick and wife, Della M., Henrietta, N.Y.; and Jerry A. Gorelick, Hollywood, Fla.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by sisters, Rachel Burkowitz and Edythe Ropeik; and brothers, William H. Price and Dr. Morris A. Price.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at noon by Rabbi Benny Rapoport at the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Arrangements are by the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., Dunmore.
There will be no local shiva.
