Florence Smith Calomino, 97, died Thursday at Sunnyside Retirement Community in Harrisonburg, Va.
Born in Dunmore on June 21, 1916, one of 11 children of John and Mary Ellen McIntyre Smith, she lived in Dunmore and Scranton until three years ago, when she moved to Virginia to live with her daughter.
Florence spent many years as a portrait photographer with Prestwood Studios in Scranton, after having worked as a sales associate at the Globe Store. After her retirement, she traveled widely. The highlight of her travels was a month in Ireland, visiting the counties where her parents were born and raised.
Surviving are a daughter, Audrey Calomino, Harrisonburg; a daughter-in-law, Fei-Ying Calomino, Hartford, Conn.; a sister-in-law, Mary Judge, Dunmore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank W. Calomino; a son, Wayne Calomino; her parents and 10 brothers and sisters.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated April 5 at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton, followed by a graveside service at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Family and friends will gather Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore.
