Gerald J. "Jerry" Gavin Jr., 52, of Scranton, died Friday in Commonwealth Hospice after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He and his wife, the former Louise "BZ" Torrisi, celebrated 27 years of marriage on May 18.
Born in Scranton, son of Carmel A. Sabie Gavin and the late Gerald J. Gavin Sr., he was a member St. Ann's Basilica. He was educated in Scranton public schools and was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1978. Before his illness, he was employed by Procter & Gamble for 15 years.
Jerry was an avid golfer and received great joy from spending time with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and son who will be deeply missed.
Also surviving are a daughter, Justine J. vanMaanen and husband, David P., Boston; a son, Dane B. Gavin, Scranton; a brother, Paul Gavin and wife, Tina, Factoryville; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Ann's Basilica. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
