Gertrude L. Gacek, 92, a resident of Gino J. Merli Veterans Center, Scranton, and formerly of Spring Brook Twp. and Hatboro, died Sunday morning after an illness. She was the widow of Edward L. Gacek, who died April 26, 2009.
Born March 12, 1921, in Scranton, daughter of he late Karl and Rose Jacobe Kiesling, she raised her family in Wilkes-Barre before moving to Philadelphia in 1950. She was employed by the Colonnade Restaurant in Philadelphia and worked as a nurse's aide at Nazareth Hospital. She was a former member of St. Boniface Church, Wilkes-Barre, and was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church, Moscow.
Surviving are four sons, William C. Jones, Spring Brook Twp.; Dr. Edward Jones and wife, Theresa, Ambler; Charles Jones and companion, Ann, Cheltenham; and Robert Jones and wife, Esther, Woodstock, Ga.; a daughter, Rosemary Druding and husband, Dennis, Pine Hill, N.J.; a sister, Dorothy Gluc, Wilkes-Barre; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband, John O. Jones, in 1972; and her daughter-in-law, Marie T. Jones, on Jan. 22, 2011.
Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Catherine of Siena Church, Church Street, Moscow, with the Rev. Robert Simon, pastor, as celebrant. Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
