Gordon W. Postlethwaite, 82, of Carbondale, died Friday at the Carbondale Nursing Home. His wife is the former, Susan Fry. The couple had celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary on Nov. 25.
Born in Carbondale, he was the son of the late John and Lily Bennetts Postlethwaite. He attended Carbondale schools and served in the Army
during the Korean War
. Gordon was self-employed and owned the G.W. Postlethwaite Painting Co., Carbondale. He specialized in fine art interior decorating and painting. Gordon was a member of the Carbondale First Presbyterian Church where he served throughout the years as a deacon, elder and trustee. He was very proud of being a 50-year member of the Free & Accepted Masonic Lodge 249, Carbondale, where he was also a past master.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed his grandchildren's baseball games. Gordon loved to sit on his porch with his coffee and newspaper in hand and looked forward to afternoon coffee with his friends in town.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Carbondale Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care, concern and compassion shown to Gordon and the family.
He is also survived by three children, Mark, Bluffton, S.C.; Scott and wife, Lisa, Simpson; and a daughter, Susan, Decator, Ga.; and two grandchildren, Alyssa and Paxton.
He was also preceded by a brother, John B. Postlethwaite; and a sister, Desiree McArdelle.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 5 p.m. in the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson, with services by Pastor Wayne Wolfe of the First Presbyterian Church, Carbondale. Spring interment in Canaan Corners Cemetery, Waymart.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 5 p.m.
