Guido Mendicino

Guido Mendicino of West Scranton died Thursday at home following on illness. His wife of 52 years is the former Elisa Puteri.

Born in San Mango D'Aquino, Provincia di Catanzaro, Italy, he was the son of the late Gaspare and Vittoria Iera Mendicino. He immigrated to the United States in 1971 and settled in West Scranton. Before his retirement he was employed in the local garment industry and worked for Bonacci Sportswear for many years. He was educated in Italy and proudly served in the Italian armed forces.

He was loved and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of the San Mango D'Aquino Mutual Benefit Society and St. Lucy's Church.

Also surviving are a son, Antonio Mendicino, Scranton; a daughter, Victoria Franca Mancuso and husband, Nicholas, Dix Hills, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Gabriella, Marino and Matteo; a brother, Luigi, Montreal, Canada; sisters, Luisa Notarianni of Italy; Maria Bonacci, Scranton; and Filicetta Chieffallo, Toronto, Canada; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Francesca Bonacci, Rosina Berardelli, Iolanda Caputo and Filomena Stella; a brother, Antonio Mendicino.

The funeral will be conducted on Monday from the Solfanelli-Fiorillo Funeral Home Inc., 1030 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, 949 Scranton St., Scranton. Entombment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery Mausoleum, Scranton.
