Harold E. Russell

Harold E. Russell, 75, of Mocanaqua, passed away into eternal life to be with his beloved wife, June M. Parker Russell on Wednesday morning, February 6, 2013, in Hospice Community Care Unit, Wilkes-Barre. He was in ill health for some time. He was a son of the late Clarence E. Russell and Irene (Bartel) Russell.

He was born on September 16, 1937, and raised in Scranton. Upon completion of his education in the Scranton schools, Harold enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 9 years and was honorably discharged.

Harold worked in the sheet metal industry for more than 30 years. He was a member of the SMWIA Local #550. That is where he met his late wife, June.

He was preceded in death by sons, Harold E. Jr. and Lee Ryan from a previous marriage; two sisters, Catherine Prebel and Delores Derbin; three brothers, Robert E., George W. and William T.; brother-in-law, Robert B. Parker; father-in-law, Robert L. Parker; mother-in-law, Victoria Duke and her husband, George Duke.

Harold is survived by three children from a previous marriage, daughters, Shirley A., Dorothy Snell and son, Roy R., all of Scranton; two sisters, Marilyn, Scranton; and Audrey Harris, Fla. Also surviving are stepchildren, Tracy Shafer and husband, Craig of Benton; Donna Ellersick and husband, John of Mocanaqua; Leonard Hazlak II and wife, Lori of Benton; and Brenda Foose of Nanticoke; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation. Graveside services will be held Friday, February 8, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. at St. James United Church of Christ Cemetery, 443 Zaner's Bridge Road, Bendertown. Military services will be provided by the Shickshinny American Legion Post. Arrangements are under the direction of the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., Shickshinny.
