Harold McDonald

Harold "Mac" McDonald, 73, of Mayfield, died Wednesday evening at Regional Hospital of Scranton following a brief illness.

Born Feb. 2, 1940, in Pittston, he was the son of the late John H. and Jane Eustice McDonald. Before his retirement, he was a career Marine, obtaining the rank of gunnery sergeant and served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Commendation. He was a member of the Avoca VFW Post.

Surviving are two daughters, Tina R. Vittone and husband, Richard, of San Clemente, Calif.; and Shelley Brown and husband, Steven, of Tennessee; two sons, Kurt McDonald and wife, Melissa, of Lexington, Ky.; and Shawn P. McDonald and wife, Nicole, of Olyphant; seven grandchildren, Jordan Brown, Shayla Vittone, Steven Brown Jr., Alyssa Shaw, Kaitlyn Vittone, Zoe McDonald and Mason McDonald; two sisters, Thelma J. Cunard and Dolores Cunard, both of Dickson City; one brother, Richard McDonald of Scranton; several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by sisters, Mildred, Ethel, Jane and Shirley; and a brother, Robert.

A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at noon in the Green Ridge Assembly of God Church, 825 Green Ridge St., Scranton, with Pastor David Twiss as officiating clergy. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery, at a time to be announced.

Friends may call Monday, 4 to 7 p.m., in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Ave., Scranton. Military honors will be conducted at 7.
