Helen C. Trently

Helen C. Trently, of Jermyn, formerly of the Minooka section of Scranton, died Saturday at home. Her husband, Edward F. Trently, a Scranton police officer, died Feb. 11, 1987.

Born in Scranton on Jan. 11, 1926, daughter of the late Edward S. and Kathryn Murphy Nolan, she was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1944. She was a member of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary Parish in Jermyn and a former member of St. Joseph's Parish in Minooka. She worked at Head Start, Jermyn.

Helen had a great sense of humor and a strong will. She deeply loved her family and God. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Helen loved to go to Atlantic City and Pocono Downs and play the slots, but her biggest thrill was when she went to Ireland, where she went to County Mayo, where her mother came from. Deeply devoted to St. Ann and St. Anthony, her greatest joys were her family, her Irish heritage and God. Helen left a wonderful legacy of love, loyalty and faith to her family. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by five daughters, Kathryn Dunstone and husband, Joseph, Greenfield Twp.; Patricia Sokso and husband, Tom, Archbald; caregiver, Peggy Trently, Jermyn; Marie Gaughan and husband, Jack, Minooka; and Ann Michelle Zlotucha, Minooka; four sons, Edward, Gerald and wife, Benita; John E. and wife, Maureen; and William and wife, Linda, all of Scranton; 20 grandchildren, Anna, Carol and Mary Trently, Lisa and husband, Ed Scott; Linda and husband, Mark O'Brien; Michael and wife, Amy Trently; Jaydie Trently, Joe Dunstone and wife, Stephanie; Colleen and husband, Chris Smigiel; Michael Sokso, T.J. and wife, Anya Sokso; Jeffrey Sokso and wife, Sarah; John and Nolan Trently, Billy Trently, Michelle and Jeremy Ambrosavage, Bill Gaughan and fiancée, Kellie Wright; Eddie and Katie Gaughan and Ashley Zlotucha; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a very special nephew, Francis McDonnell and wife, Domaine; and grandniece, Shannon and husband, Robert Rucker.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Michael A.; a daughter, Michelle Ann; a sister, Mary Rose McDonnell; a brother, John E. Nolan; and a son-in-law, Richard Zlotucha.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Thomas Minora and his staff for their excellent care and compassion, as well as Hospice of the Sacred Heart, including Kathryn, Maria, Barb, Laura and especially Lisa Molinaro and Dorothy MacGregor. Further, her children would like to thank their sister, Peggy, for her extraordinary care for their mother in her final years.

The funeral will be Wednesday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church at Divine Mercy Parish, 312 Davis St., Scranton. The family requests that those attending the Mass on Wednesday proceed directly to the church.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton.
