Helen Panuski Cherniak

Helen Panuski Cherniak, Greenwood section of Moosic, died Tuesday at Green Ridge Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 30 years, John R. Panuski, who died in 1969, and her second husband of two years, Stephen Cherniak, who died in 1979.

Born Nov. 23, 1918, in Pittston, daughter of the late William and Mary Stonikinis. She was a member of St. Mary's Czestochowa until its closing and was a member of Divine Mercy Parish. Helen was a 1937 graduate of Pittston High School. She was a resident of Greenwood for over 60 years. Before retirement, she was employed as a sales clerk and in the garment industry. She was active in church, school and civic affairs in her community.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Green Ridge Health Care Center Unit 3 for their kind and compassionate care during Helen's stay.

Surviving is a daughter, Mary Ann Behle and husband, Gary, Scranton; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Wilson; a grandson, Robert M. Harvilchuck; two sisters, Anna Labashosky and Mary Powell; and three brothers, Joseph, William and George Stonikinis.

Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, pastor, Divine Mercy Parish. Interment, St. Mary's Czestochowa Cemetery, Greenwood section. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of donor's choice. Arrangements by the Dorothy T. Talipski Home for Funerals, 3401 Pittston Ave., Greenwood section.
