Hobert D. Travis Jr., 60, of Bloomsburg, died Friday at Bloomsburg Health Care Center. He and his wife, Maryhelen Naumann Travis, would have celebrated 18 years of marriage on Sept. 30.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Hobert D. Sr. and Ruth Ziegler Travis, he was a member of Christ United Angelica Lutheran Church, Catawissa, educated in Scranton public schools and a 1970 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. He was employed for many years at Prestwood Studios.
"Hobie," as he was affectionately known, had a long and valiant fight against COPD. Before his illness, Hobie was actively involved with the Boy Scouts of America, as he had been since attaining the rank of Eagle Scout in 1969. Hobie had been a scoutmaster, friend and mentor to countless Scouts and Scouters. He received the Scoutmaster's Award of Merit.
Also surviving are two sons, James Travis, Madisonville; and Jason Travis and fiancée, Linda Lutz, Bellefonte; two stepsons, Michael Mara and wife, Megan, Whitehall; and Jonathan Mara, Bloomsburg; six grandchildren, Kassandra Travis, Katelyn Travis, Zacc Rodney, Payton Travis, Emily Mara and Christopher Mara; a sister, Donna Smith and husband, Jerry, Scranton; an aunt, Mable Englehardt, Scranton; three uncles, Jackie and Billy Ziegler, Scranton; and Russell Travis, Jermyn; his former wife, Karen James Jones, Moscow; nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Thomas J. Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1240 St. Ann's St., Scranton, by the Rev. Gretchen Johanson, pastor of Christ United Angelica Lutheran Church. Interment, private at the convenience of the family.
Friends may call Tuesday, 6 to 8 p.m. The family requests no flowers due to allergies. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boy Scout troop or council of your choice.
