Irene C. Dakey

Irene C. Dakey, 75, of Jermyn, died Wednesday at Select Specialty Hospital, Harrisburg. She was the widow of Walter Dakey.

Irene was born in Carbondale on Nov. 23, 1937, a daughter of the late Phillip and Julia Geraltowski Vandervort. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary Parish, Jermyn, and was employed by Telespond as a senior companion.

She had a zest for life that continued right through her illness.

Irene is survived by two daughters, Linda Dakey and companion, Jeremy, of Scranton; and Caroline Petrisky of Peckville; a son, Walter Dakey and fiancée, Kim, of Jermyn; two brothers, Edward Vandervort of Jermyn; and Joseph Vandervort of Florida; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Delores Black; and a brother, Phillip.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Mary Church, Jermyn, to be celebrated by Monsignor Dale R. Rupert, pastor. Friends attending the mass are asked to go directly to church.

Viewing will be Sunday 5 to 7 p.m. at Ryczak-Harrison Funeral Home Inc., 901 Lackawanna Ave., Mayfield.
