Irene C. Durkin, R.N., of Scranton, died Sunday at Lackawanna Health Care Center, Blakely. She was the widow of William Durkin, who died Dec. 27, 1985.
Irene was born in Archbald on Oct. 4, 1919, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Barrett Flanagan. She was a member of Holy Rosary Church of Mary, Mother of God Parish, Scranton. She was a graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, where she earned her RN degree and was a private-duty nurse at Mercy Hospital.
Surviving are two sons, William and wife, Maryann, Archbald; and Gary and companion, Lois, Scranton; a daughter, Deidre and husband, Bob Spager, Dickson City; 10 grandchildren, William, Brian, Brittney, Gary Jr. and Darren Durkin; Brianne Roberts, Carrie Ann Pitts, Robert, Siobahn and Colin Spager; 10 great-grandchildren, Fitzy, Kathleen, Paige, Brian, London, Kasey and Riley Durkin; Tenley and Talia Roberts; and Amber Talerico; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph, Raymond and Austin Flanagan; and three sisters, Thresa Coggins, Helen and Ruth Flanagan.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9 a.m. from the Harrison Funeral Home, 374 Main St., Archbald, with Mass at 9:30 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald. Interment in St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery, Archbald.
