James D. Dearie, 80, of Greenfield Twp., died Thursday at the VNA Hospice Unit at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scanton. His wife is the former Gladys Arthur.
Born in Jermyn, son of the late Harry and Lillian Berry Dearie, he was employed by the Erie-Lackawanna Railroad before retiring. He was also proprietor of the J&B Tavern, Carbondale for many years.
Also surviving are a son, Glenn Dearie, Richland, N.Y.; three stepdaughters, Joyce Oakley, Carbondale; Tracy Nossavage, Carbondale; and Tamey Torch, Scott Twp.; two stepsons, Dorval Ellett, Moosic; and Larry Ellett, Thompson; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the Battenberg Funeral Home, 363 Washington Ave., Jermyn, with the Rev. Allan Rupert, Primitive Methodist Church, Jermyn, officiating. Interment, Valley View Cemetery, Scott Twp.
