James J. Loftus

James J. Loftus, 61, of South Scranton, died Saturday after an illness at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton. His wife of 40 years is the former Irene Abent.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ann Elizabeth Smith Loftus. A graduate of the practical nursing program at Lackawanna Vocational Technical School, he was an LPN at Community Medical Center. He was a former member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Scranton.

Jim was a truly loving, devoted husband, brother and uncle. His ever-present smile gave a feeling of warmth and comfort to everyone he encountered. He loved to travel and take fishing trips with family and friends. Jim will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all of his family and friends.

The family would like to thank Dr. Manahan and the emergency room and intensive care unit at GCMC for their support and care.

Also surviving are a sister, Sharon Maybock and husband, Eugene, Justus; a brother, Robert and wife, Christine, Dunmore; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday in the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with services at a time to be announced. Interment, private at the convenience of the family.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m.
