Jim "Gatsby" Gower, 74, of Weston, Fla., formerly of Scranton and New York City, died Oct. 19 after an illness. His wife is the former Margaret Richardson.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph and Marion Noone Gower, he was a graduate of West Scranton High School and the University of Scranton. He also served in the Army
as a member of the Military Intelligence Corps and received an honorable discharge. Before his retirement and relocation to Florida, Jim worked as a regional sales manager of emerging technologies for 3M Corp. in Manhattan.
Also surviving are his son, James Gower, Weston; sisters, Marion Rauscher and husband, Lou, Wilkes-Barre; Annemarie McLaughlin and Jeanne Paris, Scranton; a brother, Dr. Joseph Gower and wife, Robin, New Jersey; several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
His greatest joy in life was his son, Jimmy, whom he delivered himself in their Manhattan apartment. Jim was always the life of the party, an avid reader, and a talented cultivator of butterfly gardens.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Nativity of Our Lord Church, St. John Neumann Parish, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, by the Rev. Michael Bryant pastor. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
