James M. Deats IV, 59, a resident of Mechanicsburg and a former resident of Scranton and Avoca, died Feb. 4 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, after an illness. His former wife, Mary Falciglia Deats, died in 2002.
Born in Findley, Ohio, son of Irene Tibbett Deats, Laceyville, and the late the late James M. III, he was of the Protestant faith. James was a graduate of Pittston Area High School and was a veteran of the Marine Corps, where he attended college for two years. Before his retirement due to illness, James was a mechanic in the auto industry.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lisa Deats and her daughter, Bianca; a stepson, John Royce, Scranton; a sister, Evelyn Burnside, Pittston; a brother, John Deats, Cortland, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.
In keeping with James's request, funeral services were private and held from the Donahue Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with cremation following.
