James Woolsey Steele, 81, passed away peacefully on Dec. 29, 2012, at his residence in Palm City, Fla.
Born Sept. 11, 1931, to Thomas Findlay Steele and Dorothy Guernon Steele in Scranton, Pa., he graduated from Riverside Military Academy, the University of Scranton and Penn State University
, where he obtained a Master's of Business and Administration. His long and varied professional career included being a Vice President of Human Resources for Certainteed/Saint-Gobain, owner of Resource Systems, a business consulting firm, and being a Professor at the Drexel University, School of Business. He split his time between residence in Radnor, Pa., and Palm City, Fla.
Travel was Jim's passion. He loved traveling the globe and photo-documenting his journeys. In his younger years, he was an avid golfer and club champion. He was a member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church, Merion Cricket Club and Harbor Ridge Golf Club. Jim was active in numerous organizations where he volunteered his time including the Curtis Institute of Music, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Philadelphia Flower Show, Bryn Mawr Hospital and PBS.
Jim is survived by his wife, Penny M. Steele; sons, Thomas (Robyn); and James (Andrea); daughter, Sherrerd (Greg); stepson, Alexander; stepdaughter, Danielle (Derek); eight grandchildren; and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Thomas F. Steele Jr.; and his first wife, Lucie B. Steele.
A memorial service for Jim will be held at Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church in Bryn Mawr, Pa., on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, from 11 a.m. to noon. Memorial donations may be made to Bryn Mawr Hospital, 130 S. Bryn Mawr Ave., Bryn Mawr, PA 19010.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Forest Hills Funeral Homes Palm City Chapel.
