Jean Doris Denniston

Jean Doris Denniston, a resident of St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst Twp., died Tuesday morning after an illness.

Born Feb. 10, 1925, in Scranton, daughter of the late Harry and Ruth Taylor Denniston, she was a 1943 graduate of Dunmore High School and a graduate of Hunter College in New York. Jean was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II.

Jean loved the outdoors and resided most of her life in the Catskill Mountain resorts and the Pocono Mountain resorts. Before living at St. Mary's Villa, she lived in Luzerne Towers for 15 years.

Surviving are two brothers, Thomas McCarthy, Dunmore; and William McCarthy, Nicholson; a sister, Mary Burrows, Manassas, Va.; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Steven and Jack Denniston; and two sisters, Ann Pidich and Nancy Wyman.

A Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Eulalia's Church, 214 Blue Shutters Road, Roaring Brook Twp. Interment to follow with military honors in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Twp.
