Joan Hoban Turock, 85, formerly of Dickson City, died Monday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center following an illness. She was the widow of Daniel J. Turock, who died in 1990.
Born in Jessup, daughter of the late James and Gertrude Kearney Hoban, she was educated in Jessup schools and was a member of SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in Olyphant.
In November 1949, Joan married the love of her life, Daniel Turock, and they had two children, son Daniel Jr., and daughter, Linda. Joan and Dan operated a tavern in Olyphant, and before her retirement, she worked at Pawnee Pants. Joan's real enjoyment was taking trips to California to visit her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Debra Turock; and two grandchildren, Daniel III and Ashley, all of Simi Valley, Calif.; a sister, Jean Tokash of Eynon; several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her son, Daniel Jr.; her daughter, Linda; three brothers, William, James and Francis; and a sister, Ann Marie Beneski, who died May 8.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 a.m. from the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home, 404 Susquehanna Ave., Olyphant, with a blessing service at 10 in St. Cyril's Cemetery Chapel, Peckville, by the Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, pastor. Interment, St. Cyril's Cemetery.
Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. A parastas service will be at 7.
