Joan M. Edmondson, 82, a lifelong resident of West Scranton, died Monday morning under Commonwealth Hospice care at Regional Hospital of Scranton.
Born on Oct. 4, 1930, daughter of Anna Campbell Gilbert, 101 years young and a resident of Scranton, and the late William Gilbert, Joan graduated from West Scranton High School before beginning a career at the former Mercy Hospital in Scranton. Retiring as human resources director, she passionately worked at the hospital for nearly 50 years.
She was a true believer of the underdog and tried to help all in need. A loving daughter, mother, grandmother and friend, her greatest joy in life came from her two beloved granddaughters. Taylor and Annabelle were her whole life's joy, she enjoyed every minute with them and especially their trip every year to Florida and Disney.
Her family would like to thank both the home and inpatient staffs of Commonwealth Hospice for the exceptional care they gave Joan.
She is survived by her daughter, Colle Edmondson and companion, Thomas Jones; and two granddaughters, Annabelle and Taylor Callis, all of Olyphant.
A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled today at 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel, Oram Street, West Scranton.
Relatives and friends may pay their respects today from 10:30 until Mass.
