Joan M. Ruane, of Scranton, died Monday, surrounded by her loving family at Moses Taylor Hospital.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Francis A. and Catherine Charles Ruane. She was a 1957 graduate of West Scranton High School and she attended evening classes at the University of Scranton. She was a secretary for attorney Ralph P. Carey and attorney Paul Mazzoni, and then she worked as an administrative assistant for 37 years in State Workman's Insurance Fund. She was a member of St. Paul's Church, Scranton.
Surviving are a sister, Ann Scanlon and husband, James, Scranton; a brother, Joseph Ruane and wife, Marilyn; nieces and nephews, Catherine McAndrew, Mary Frances Hoban and husband, Rick; Robert McAndrew and wife, Frances; Kelly McAndrew, James J. Scanlon and wife, Victoria, Megan Scanlon, Jeffrey Scanlon and fiancée, Kathy Nealon; Catherine Scanlon, Lori Nguyen and Brian Ruane and wife, Pam.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Marion McAndrew and Regina Ruane; two brothers, John J. Ruane and Frank Ruane; and a niece, Michele Ruane.
Joan enjoyed her years of traveling and her many dear friends, who were so precious to her.

The funeral will be Friday from the Albert P. O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St., Dunmore, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Church, 1510 Penn Ave., Scranton. Interment Cathedral Cemetery.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.
