John Bartrige

John Bartrige, 77, a life long resident of Spring Brook Twp., went to be with the lord Saturday morning at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. His wife is Dolly Kessler Bartrige. The couple was married 53 years.

Born at home in Spring Brook, Jan. 7, 1936, he was the son of the late John and Stella Rybinski Bartrige. He was a farmer for his entire life. He also worked for Burshell and Dairy Lee as a milk can hauler for 50 years and also the Spring Brook Twp. for 41½ years.

John not only loved his children and grandchildren but all children, John and his wife opened their house for 28 years to take care of special needs foster children. He was a member of the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He was an avid motorcycle rider and hunter.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children daughters, Anita Lane and husband, Dave, Spring Brook Twp.; and JoAnn Spewak and husband, David, California; sons, John Bartrige and wife, Liz, Spring Brook Twp.; and Sean Bartrige and companion, Tessa Stratz, Spring Brook Twp.; grandchildren, John Bartrige and wife, Jennifer, Spring Brook Twp.; Tom Bartrige, Edwardsville; Laura Bartrige, Duryea; Tiffany Shaffer, Carbondale; Danielle Lane and companion, Carter Aston, Spring Brook; Olivie Spewak, Califonia; and Riley Bartrige, Spring Brook Twp.; four great-grandchildren, Tommy and McKenzie Bartrige; Carter Jr. and Christina Aston; three sisters, Nancy Springer and husband, Russell, Lake Ariel; Frances Locklin and husband, Richard, Hamlin; and Mary Geier, Tennessee; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Falciani and Josephine Darlak.

The memorial service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Cross Road Road Assembly, 803 Route 435, Elmhurst Twp., PA 18444, to be celebrated by Pastor Ron Liples.

A visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the church.
