John Dsurney Jr., 75, a resident of Gouldsboro for the past 25 years, died Tuesday at Regional Hospital in Scranton. He was the husband of Roseann Russo Dsurney.
Born in Orange, N.J., he was the son of the late John Sr. and Cecelia Crowley Dsurney. John graduated from West Orange High School and obtained his associate degree in fire science from Essex County Community College. He retired in 1987 after 25 years of service as a captain from the West Orange Fire Department in New Jersey. After moving to Pennsylvania, John continued to serve his neighbors as a member of the Gouldsboro Volunteer Fire Company, serving as the assistant chief for nine years. He also held many positions in the Boy Scouts and in the Clifton Twp. community. John served as the director of security for Big Bass Lake for nine years. He was a member St. Rita's Church in Gouldsboro, and the Knights of Columbus, North Pocono Council 6050, in Moscow.
John is also survived by three sons, Dr. John Dsurney IV and wife, Dr. Mary Ann McGrath, of Tampa, Fla.; Michael E. Dsurney and wife, Sandra, of Fanwood, N.J.; and Robert Dsurney and wife, Maria, of Livingston, N.J.; a sister, Barbara Dsurney of Hudson, Fla.; three grandchildren, Michael D., Michelle L. and Matthew R. Dsurney; many nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Rita's Church, 512 Main St., Gouldsboro, by the Rev. Alfred J. Vito. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Family and friends are requested to proceed directly to the church on Tuesday morning.
There will be a viewing on Monday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Homes and Cremation Services, 3 First St., Spring Brook Twp.
