John E. Kiehart

John E. "Jack" Kiehart, 83, of Mayfield, died Thursday at home. His wife of 58 years is the former Mary Leonardo.

Born in Pittsburgh to the late Margaret Kiehart, he was a proud veteran of the Air Force, serving with the 118th Fighter Bomber Squadron, "The Foxy Few," in the Korean War. He was a printer by trade and worked at Eureka Security Printing. He also founded Spectram Ambulance Service.

He had a love of community service and volunteerism. He was a lifetime member of the William Walker Hose Company, Mayfield. He also helped found several local ambulance companies, most notably Cottage Hose Company, Carbondale, and Forest City Ambulance. But it was teaching CPR to all of the local ambulance squads, Boy Scouts, hospital personnel and state troopers that was his greatest joy. One of his proudest accomplishments was being part of the first EMT class in Lackawanna County.

He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan and looked forward to his Tuesday night pinochle game at the Throop Civic Center. Jack was also a member of American Legion Post 610, Mayfield, and served as post commander in 1963.

Also surviving are his children, Annmarie, Mayfield; John Jr. and companion, Christine Kozicki Davis, Mayfield; Nancy and husband, Eric Krempasky, Archbald; and Paula Knutelski, Mayfield; and son-in-law, John Knutelski, Mayfield; grandchildren, Carissa Kiehart, Daria Kolata and John Kiehart III; Emily and A.J. Temple III; and Maria and Sarah Knutelski; a half-sister, Connie Fries, Pittsburgh; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
