John T. Jones, 92, of Taylor, died Monday evening at home. His former wife, Carolyn Jones Jones, died Feb. 28, 1990.
Born in Taylor, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Rachael Davis Jones and was a 1941 graduate of Taylor High School. He proudly served our county during WWII
in the Navy aboard the USS Overton DD-239 and the USS Haraden DD-585. He was the recipient of numerous citations. After his service, John worked as a security guard for Governor Scranton's mother. Later, he worked as a milkman for many years, working for Woodlawn Dairy and retiring from Dairylea. He served as the commander for many years at VFW
Post 25 and was a member of the Taylor American Legion, Post 306.
He passed away surrounded by his family.
Surviving are two sons, Rick, Clarks Summit; David and wife, Yvette, Nicholson; four daughters, Carolyn Timlin, Jane Stevens and husband, Bill, all of Scranton; Cindy Strenkoski and husband, Joe with whom he resided; and Judy Malinosky and husband, Bob, Knoxville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ann Bracey and husband, Tom, Taylor; a dear and devoted friend of many years, Bea Weitz; nieces and nephews.
A son-in-law, Jim Timlin, a sister, Elizabeth Marquard and five brothers, Bill, Llewellyn, Edwin, David, and Ben preceded him in death.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Semian Funeral Home, 704 Union St., Taylor. Interment will be private in Forest Home Cemetery, Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to One Life to Live Pet Rescue and Adoption, P.O. Box 4161, Scranton, Pa. 18505.
