Joseph Baron, 90, a lifelong resident of Scranton, died Thursday in Moses Taylor Hospital after a brief illness. His wife of 64 years is the former Margaret Masters.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late George and Barbara Pehanich Baron. He graduated from Scranton Technical High School and was a World War II Army
veteran who was stationed in the Philippines. He worked for 38 years for the Superior Fire Proof Door and Sash Co., Scranton. He was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Scranton, its Holy Name Society, and also worked at St. Mary's Center for many years.
Joe (Papa) was a kind and loving man who will be sorely missed by his friends and family.
Surviving are a daughter, Barbara Garvey, Dunmore; four sons, Joseph, Throop; William, Taylor; Christopher, Vandling; and Robert, Phillipsburg, N.J.; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary and Irene; and three brothers, John, George and Paul.
The funeral will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Chipak Funeral Home, 343 Madison Ave., Scranton, with Divine Liturgy at 10 in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Mifflin Avenue and Linden Street, Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Leonard Martin, S.J., pastor. Interment, parish cemetery, Minooka section of Scranton.
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Parastas service at 7:30.
