Joseph L. Bevilacqua, 72, of Jessup, formerly of West Scranton, died Tuesday at home after a courageous battle with a long illness. His wife is the former Theresa Damiano. The couple would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Aug. 10.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Sam L. and Ann Galida Bevilacqua, he was a graduate of West Scranton High School and attended Penn State University
. He proudly served in the National Guard. Before his retirement, he was the owner and operated JTA Machinery of Eynon and had previously been associated with J. Bevilacqua & Sons Inc. Sheet Metal Co. of Scranton.
Joe passed away surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was dearly loved by all and will be deeply missed.
He was at his happiest when surrounded by his family, especially his grandsons, whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Charles Grad and his entire staff, and VNA Hospice for their wonderful care.
Also surviving are a daughter, Ann Marie and husband, Paul Mellen, Jefferson Twp.; two grandsons, Paul Joseph Mellen and Nicholas Mellen; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Faye Bernardi.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Patrick F. Guido Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Ave., with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton. Everyone wishing to attend the funeral is asked to go directly to church. Interment will follow in Dunmore Cemetery.
