Joseph M. Sunday Sr., 84, of Dickson City, died Saturday at Lackawanna Health Care and Rehabilitation Center. He is survived by Phyllis Sunday.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Ludwig and Anna Tomczyk Sunday, he attended Scranton schools. Joseph was a World War II Army
veteran. Before retirement, he was the owner and operator of Sunday Trucking Inc. in Scranton.
Also surviving are two sons, Paul Sunday; Dickson City; and Joseph Sunday Jr. and wife, Christine, Lake Ariel; two daughters, Sharon Edmondson, Scott Twp.; and Michele Maroni and husband, Joseph, Dickson City; grandchildren, Christopher, Tyler and Paulette Sunday; Richard and Nicholas Edmondson; great-grandchildren, Jamir Coddington, Jalani Williams and Christopher Joseph Sunday; a brother, Edward Sunday, Scranton; a sister, Delores Smith, Idaho; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Louis (Leo); and a sister, Florence Galka.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9:45 a.m. from the Nicholas Chomko Funeral Home, 1132 Prospect Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in St. Michael Archangel Church, 1703 Jackson St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Poisson, assistant pastor. Interment, SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Rundle Street, Scranton.
Friends may call Tuesday, 4 to 7 p.m. The rosary will be recited by the Rev. Poisson at 6:30.
