Josephine C. Alimena, 100, a resident at St. Mary's Villa, formerly of West Scranton, died Monday at the villa.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Mary Sarli Alimena. Educated in Scranton schools, she was the owner and proprietor of Jo's Beauty Shop, located in the Connell Building, Scranton. Upon her retirement, she volunteered for many years at Moses Taylor Hospital. She was a longtime member of St. Lucy's Church.
Josephine had many friends whom she helped when they had illnesses or needs, and she was greatly appreciated by them. She was a devoted and cherished sister, aunt and great-aunt and will be missed by all who knew her.
Josephine's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Mary's Villa Nursing Home and Residence for their wonderful care and concern.
Surviving are a sister, Estelle Gioseffi, Elmhurst; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lucy Costanzo and Geraldine Alimena; and four brothers, Samuel, Leonard, James and Clarence Alimena.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Lucy's Church, 949 Scranton St., Scranton. Private interment will follow at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lucy's Church, 949 Scranton St., Scranton, PA 18504 or to St. Mary's Villa, 516 St. Mary's Villa Road, Elmhurst Twp., PA 18444.
