Josephine S. (Slavinski) Godek, formerly of Hull, Mass., died Friday, Feb. 21, 2014, at Sudbury Pines Extended Care Facility. She was 73. The beloved wife of the late Thomas G. Godek Sr., she was the beloved mother of Amy Jo Kane and husband, Thomas of Quincy, Mass.; Thomas G. Godek Jr. and wife, Karen of Methuen, Mass.; and Jennifer F. Bauer and husband, Roland of Framingham, Mass. She also leaves behind a sister, Eva Meus of Portage, Ind. She was known as "Grammy" to her eight grandchildren.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Anthony and Stella (Marcinowski) Slavinski. She was a 1957 graduate of Scranton Technical High School. Josephine was employed by the Town of Hull for more than 20 years in both the accounting department and as the treasurer/tax collector. She was also a seasonal tax preparer at H&R Block for more than 20 years.
Josephine was a devoted Polish National Catholic and a member of the Blessed Trinity Parish in Fall River, Mass. She served as a member of its parish board, holding the position of treasurer. She sang in the Frederic Chopin Choir and was also a member of the Ladies Adoration Society. She was also an active supporter and member of the Friends of the Hull Marching Pirates. In addition to her family and friends, Jo loved her slots and bingo at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun, gardening and the Boston Red Sox.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 8:30 to 9:30 a.m., at the Leon S. Gorgol Funeral Home, 1131 Pittston Ave., Scranton, Pa., followed by a funeral Mass at 10 in St. Stanislaus Polish National Catholic Cathedral. Interment, parish cemetery.
