Katherine Forney Giles, 63, of Scranton died Friday at the VNA Hospice at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton, after a courageous battle with an illness. She and her husband, Edward Charles Giles, celebrated their 44th anniversary in July.
Born in Colorado Springs, Colo., she was the daughter of the late Rudolph Thomas and Maxine Rolland Forney. Katherine was educated in the Colorado Springs school system and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton. Before her retirement due to illness, she was employed in the food and retail industries.
Katherine was an inspiration to everyone she came in contact with; a warm, kind, fun loving great personality who adored her grandchildren, was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt and friend.
She is also survived by a daughter, Theresa Slocum and husband, Edward; sons, Edward C. Giles III, Scranton; and Nicholas Giles and wife, Bobbie Jo, Scranton; six grandchildren, Catherine, Brandon, Edward, Caleb, Tony and Chyanne; six sisters; eight brothers; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Rudy, on Oct. 13.
The funeral will be Monday with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Scranton, celebrated by the Rev. Joseph Sica. In keeping with her wishes, cremation will follow with internment at the convenience of the family at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst. Those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to Immaculate Conception Church that morning.
