Kathleen Ann Rudgunas, 61, of Simpson, died Monday at home after a fight with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease. She and her husband, Anthony "Reggie" Rudgunas, recently celebrated their 42nd wedding anniversary.
Born in Carbondale on Sept. 20, 1951, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Nellie Kutcher Curyk. She was an honors graduate of Fell High School, Simpson, and captain of the cheerleading squad. Kathy was employed by Liberty Bank, Carbondale, and Telephone Engineering Co. and Gentex Corp., both of Simpson. She was a devoted lifetime member of St. Michael's Church/St. Rose Parish, Simpson.
Kathleen's family will always remember her easy smile and love of travel, shopping, Sunday drives and nature walks. She had the ability to make friends wherever she went. Time spent with Kathy was treasured by all who knew her. The world is a dimmer place without her in it. She was quite simply the best wife, mother, aunt and grammy there could be. Kathy has been a consummate wife and mother to two children.
The family would like to thank the nurses of Traditional Hospice for their exceptional care during her illness, the friends who called, and all who prayed with us.
Also surviving are a son, Jesse Rudgunas and wife, Tammy, Willow Grove; a daughter, Lori Grodack, Carbondale; four grandchildren, Zachary and Julianne Rudgunas; and Ethan and Jacob Grodack; a brother, Kenneth Curyk, Pelham, N.H.; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Estelle Wagner.
The funeral will be Friday from the Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home Inc., 621 Main St., Simpson, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael's Church, 46 Midland St., Simpson. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill, at a later date.
Friends may call Thursday 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS Society of Greater Philadelphia, 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
