Kevin J. Joyce of the Bellevue section of Scranton died Saturday at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Born in Scranton, son of the late John and Anita Santoro Joyce, Kevin served proudly in the Scranton Fire Department for more than 28 years, retiring as a captain. He enjoyed his job and excelled at his work. Firefighting was truly a passion for him. He was member of the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 60, Church of the Holy Cross until its closing and St. Patrick's Church. He was very involved with the youth programs at Holy Cross Hall, where he was recognized with numerous awards for his hard work and dedication.
A devoted father, his three children meant the world to him. He enjoyed spending time with them and his entire family. He especially loved holiday meals, where he showed off his talent for cooking.
Surviving are two sons, Kevin Jr. and Michael Joyce; a daughter, Sara Joyce, all of Scranton; two sisters, Jacqueline Bonafede, Scranton; and Deborah Mackin, Clarks Green; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Donna Ciullo.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Guido-Fiorillo Funeral Home, 120 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church, 1403 Jackson St., Scranton. Those attending the funeral are asked to proceed directly to church. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.
