Leah Lola Schwartz, 93, of Scranton, died Thursday evening at the Jewish Home.
She was the widow of Asher Melvin Schwartz, who died Sept. 3, 2012.
Born in Lodz, Poland, daughter of the late Shmul Shlomo and Nacha Kalish Weintraub, she was educated as a nurse and worked in Israel before moving to Scranton. She was a Holocaust survivor
and had lectured at the Holocaust Symposium at the University of Scranton. She was a member of the Beth Shalom Congregation, Scranton, the Bichol Cholem Congregation, Old Forge, Hadassah, ORT and had also served as a teacher in Hebrew school and was a member in numerous other religious and charitable organizations.
Surviving are a brother, Leon Weintraub and wife, Evamaria, Stockholm, Sweden; nieces and nephews including Natalie Iglewicz and husband, Reed Newland; Burt Schwartz and wife, Roben; Robert Schwartz and wife, Suzanne; and Richard Schwartz and wife, Susan; and grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Franka Iglewicz, Mala Mosenson and Rosa Weintraub.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc, 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, by Rabbi Yisroel Brotsky and Rabbi Dovid Saks. Interment in the Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Following the burial the family will receive those wanting to offer condolences at the residence of Mrs. Schwartz, 515 Clay Ave., Scranton, Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.
