Leona DeMatteo, 88, of Olyphant, died Thursday at Geisinger Community Medical Center. She was the widow of Patrick F. DeMatteo, who died in 1999.
Born in Jefferson Twp., daughter of the late Fred and Emma Bentler Clemens, she resided in Olyphant for all of her married life and was a member of Holy Cross Parish, St. Patrick's Church.
She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook who enjoyed making all of the traditional Italian dishes. She will be dearly missed.
She is survived by three sons, Thomas DeMatteo and wife, Joan, Roaring Brook Twp.; Michael DeMatteo and wife, Kim, Florida; and James DeMatteo and wife, Marlene, Allentown; a daughter-in-law, Sandra DeMatteo, Madison Twp.; two sisters, Alice Spaar, Branford, Conn.; and Gladys Zawicki, Mount Cobb; 13 grandchildren, Thomas, Christopher, James, Jordan, Frank, Jason, Tanya, Danielle, Michael, Sam, Nicholas, Joseph and Patrick DeMatteo; nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Patrick DeMatteo Jr.; a sister, Mildred Plociniak; and two brothers, John and Ralph Clemens.
The funeral will be Monday from the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville, with Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Parish, St. Patrick's Church, Olyphant. Interment St. Mary of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Dunmore.
