Lester Abeloff

Lester Abeloff, Stroudsburg, died Tuesday at home. His wife, Clementine (Kupiszewski) Abeloff, preceded him in death.

Born Dec. 5, 1917, in East Stroudsburg, son of the late Nathan and Pearl Ruth Nadleman Abeloff, he attended East Stroudsburg High School and graduated from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in 1939. After graduation, he taught for a time at Blair Academy in New Jersey. He was an Air Force veteran, achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel upon retirement from the Air Force Reserve.

Surviving are a son, Daniel Paul Abeloff, Carlsbad, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews, including Emily Abeloff Adler and husband, David, Dalton; and Edwin Abeloff and wife, Annemarie; Dickson City.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Maynard and Murray Abeloff.

The funeral will be today at 11 a.m. in Temple Israel, Stroudsburg, with Rabbi Baruch Melman officiating. Burial, Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.

A celebration of his life will be held today at 1 p.m. at Stroudsmoor, and a Mincha service will be today at 5:30 p.m. at the Abeloff residence.
