Lijiah J. Simpson

Lijiah J. Simpson, 25, of North Scranton, died Friday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton.

Born May 31, 1989, in Bay Shore, N.Y., he is the son of Wayne Simpson and the late Mary Beth (King) Simpson. He is the stepson of Pat Simpson.

He was a 2007 graduate of West Scranton High School, and received a certified nurse's aide certificate from the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County. In addition to working as a CNA, he was also a CDL truck driver, having worked for Warner Trucking in Allentown and Bolus Trucking in Scranton.

Lijiah was self-taught on the guitar. His mother coached him in voice lessons as a child, and later he competed in state competitions while in high school. He was a third-degree black belt in Goshen Jitsu Karate, and was fondly called JuJu Bee by his mom.

He is also survived by a brother, Sam Simpson and wife, Ashlinn, Minooka section of Scranton; two stepbrothers, Matthew and Stephen Charles, both at home; a nephew, Illion Simpson, Minooka; paternal grandfather, Edward James "Peeta" Simpson, Honesdale; maternal grandmother, Verna Stevens, Indiana, Pa.; two uncles, Eddie Simpson and wife, Barbara, Daytona Beach, Fla.; and Bruce Simpson and wife, Julie, Wappingers Falls, N.Y.; and several cousins.

He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Phyllis "Winky" Simpson.

A memorial service will be held June 22 at 2 p.m. from the family residence, 3111 N. Main Ave., Scranton, with the Rev. Julie Shaffer officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the care of the Carmine J. & Louis C. Parise Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., Carbondale.
