Madelyn Cicilioni

Madelyn Cicilioni, 83, of Peckville, died Sunday at home. She and her husband, Benjamin Cicilioni, would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on Sept. 25.

Born in Jessup on May 24, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria Mancini Ghilardi. She was a graduate of Jessup High School, class of 1947. She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Madelyn had worked for many years as the receptionist for Dr. E.J. Biancarelli.

In her earlier years, she was active in a bowling league and playing cards and bridge with her friends as well as traveling to New York City to see Broadway shows. In her retirement years, she enjoyed her daily walk as well as playing Scrabble, reading, bingo and traveling with her husband to visit grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Ohio. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt and will be greatly missed by friends and family.

Madelyn is best described as a devoted caretaker. Caring first for her husband and children and also for her mother for many years, as well as others. Her grandchildren loved her for her intentional long-distance involvement in their lives through regular phone calls, letters and memorable visits and trips together. She was an outstanding cook and seamstress; passing on her love of feeding family and friends to her three children. She passed away surrounded by loved ones.

She is also survived by her children, Joseph Cicilioni and wife, Sophia, New York City; Karen Hitchcock and husband, Larry, Loveland, Ohio; and Benjamin Cicilioni and fiancée, Donna Smith, Montdale; grandchildren, Lita Holman and husband, Ryan; Luke Hitchcock and Hillary Hitchcock, all of Cincinnati; great-grandchildren, Grace, Noah and Andrew Holman (Andrew was born on Aug. 19); a sister, Rose Marchegiani, Jessup; a brother, Peter Ghilardi and wife, Mary, Jessup; numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Santarelli; and brothers, Peter Ghilardi, Joseph P. Ghilardi and Frank P. Ghilardi.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 8:30 a.m. from the James M. Margotta Funeral Home, 1019 Main St., Peckville, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9 in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 1101 Willow St., Peckville. Interment, St. Mary's Assumption Cemetery, Montdale.
