Marie K. Flederbach

Marie K. (Coyne) Flederbach, 84, of Honesdale, died on Thursday at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Richard "Dick" Flederbach, on March 18, 1995.

Born on Feb. 6, 1930, in Honesdale, daughter of the late James and Mae Stiles Coyne, she was a graduate of Honesdale High School. She later graduated from Keystone College and Marywood University, receiving her bachelor's degree in education. She received her master's degree and reading certification from the University of Scranton.

She began teaching at the Hamlin Elementary School and later taught first grade at the Stourbridge School in Honesdale. She retired as a reading supervisor at Wayne Highlands School District. Marie was also a driving force in the PA State Parent Reading Advisory Council. Following her retirement, Marie became active in politics and was the first woman elected to the Honesdale Borough Council, where she served for 12 years. She was also active in the Northern Wayne Democratic Party.

Marie was a faithful member of St. John the Evangelist Parish in Honesdale and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also participated in the Eucharistic Adoration Chapel since its inception. She was also an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

She is survived by her sons, Rick Flederbach and wife, Carol; and Dave Flederbach and wife, Sharon, all of Honesdale; her daughter, Mary Ann Blaskiewicz and husband, Joseph, Honesdale; her sister, Joanne Rickert, Warren; grandchildren, Ricky Flederbach and wife, Hope; Mike Flederbach and wife, Amy; Suzanne Dutton and husband, Andy; and Patrick and Julia Blaskiewicz; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by her grandson, Scott Flederbach.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery.
