Mary Bitterman Bower, 92, died Friday, April 18, at Abington Manor.
Born June 10, 1921, in Scranton, daughter of Richard and Lillian (Walsh) Fawcett, she was married to the late Jesse Bitterman. Mary graduated from Holy Rosary High School and was later employed at City Hall for the City of Scranton. Mary's greatest joy was her family, doing her puzzles and playing bingo. Mary and her sisters were always together and were affectionately known as "the Golden Girls."
Surviving are two children: a son, William and his wife, Susan Bitterman, Clarks Summit; and a daughter, Judith and her husband, Edward Conway, Philadelphia. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were a daughter, Nancy Pelicci; granddaughter, Carli Bitterman Dennis; and her three sisters, Lillian, Dolores and Catherine.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, April 22, at 12 p.m. at Mary, Mother of God Parish at Holy Rosary Church. Visitation will be held at the Knight O'Donnell Funeral Home, 323 William St., Scranton, from 10 a.m. to 12 prior to the funeral. Interment will be in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, Pa.
