Mary Boland Gunning, 89, of the Nativity section of Scranton, and Moosic Lakes, died Monday. Her husband of 60 years, Michael J. Gunning, died in November 2012.
Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Joseph and Frances Simrell Boland, Mary was a 1941 graduate of Marywood Seminary and a member of St. John Neumann Parish, Scranton. She was a member of the Sant' Andrea Society, Marywood Seminary Alumni Association, the Moosic Lakes Association and for 50 years was the treasurer of the Moosic Lakes Women's Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Dr. Mary Lisa Gunning Meholick and husband, Michael, West Chester; and Dr. Mary Jo Gunning MacGregor and husband, Richard, Lake Waynewood; four nephews, Kevin, Gene, Sean and Tim Dempsey; numerous cousins and many friends.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Neil W. Regan Funeral Home Inc., 1900 Pittston Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. John Neumann Parish at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 633 Orchard St., Scranton, to be celebrated by the Rev. Michael Bryant, pastor. Interment, St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. The family requests that those attending the funeral proceed directly to the church.
