Mary Burda

Mary Burda, 87, of Scranton, died Tuesday morning at the hospice unit of Regional Hospital of Scranton. Her husband, Peter J. Burda Sr., died June 27, 1987.

Born in Scranton on March 12, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Simon and Martha Sadauskas Sakevitch. Throughout her life, Mary worked in the garment industry as a seamstress. She was a former parishioner of St. Joseph's Lithuanian Catholic Church, North Scranton.

She was a wonderful mother and was dearly loved; she enjoyed playing the slot machines at Mohegan Sun Casino.

Surviving are two sons, Peter J. Jr. and wife, Gloria, Moosic; and Joseph W., Scranton; four grandchildren, Harold, Sherry, Dana and Joey; several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Lyman; and five brothers, Anthony, August, Simon, Skip and John.

A blessing service will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst, by the Rev. Francis Pauselli, Divine Mercy Parish. Interment will follow.
