Mary C. Devaney Taborne, 81, of Vestal, N.Y., died Sunday at the Johnston Nursing Center, Union, N.Y., after a brief illness. She was the wife of Michael Taborne. The couple had been married for 56 years.
Born in Carbondale, daughter of the late Gerald and Theresa Slattery Devaney, she was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Vestal. Before her retirement, she was employed as a nurse's aide at the Vestal Nursing Center. She was a member of the Vestal Senior Center and the Vestal Community Choir. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren's various activities and her road trips to various casinos with her good friends, Betty and Barb. She always enjoyed a good glass of Merlot.
Also surviving are a daughter, Peggy Hooker, Apalachin, N.Y.; a son, Michael Taborne, Vestal; four grandchildren, Ryan and Julie Hooker, and Brian and Kyle Taborne; a daughter-in-law, Donna Taborne; two sisters, Bridget Slish and husband, Donald, Vandling; and Anne Marie Sampson and husband, Doug, Carbondale; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph; and a son-in-law, Joseph Hooker.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Brennan & Brennan Funeral Home Inc., 55 Lincoln Ave., Carbondale, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Church, Carbondale. Interment, Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery, Finch Hill.
