Mary J. Geary

Mary J. Geary of Scranton died Saturday in Hospice Community Care, Dunmore. She was the widow of Edward F. Geary, who died May 9, 1981.

Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Walter and Jean Davidson Mott, she was a member of Immaculate Conception Church. Educated in Scranton public schools, she was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, class of 1950. Before retirement, she was employed by Moses Taylor Hospital.

Mary enjoyed traveling, listening to Neil Diamond music and was a Boston Red Sox Fan. Mary prayed the rosary daily and had a special relationship with the Blessed Mother.

The family would like to thank Dr. Linda Barrese, Dr. Kenneth Sebastinelli, the staff at Moses Taylor Hospital, especially the emergency room, and the nursing staff of the second floor.

Surviving are three daughters, Jane Colaneri, Archbald; Ruth Petroshuk and Michelle Harrison and husband, Theo, all of Scranton; two sons, Michael Geary and wife, Nancy, Yorktown, Va.; and Gerard Geary at home; a sister, Ruth Pethick and husband, John, Clarks Summit; a daughter-in-law, Suzanne Geary, Moosic Lake; 12 grandchildren, Ashley Cantafio and husband, Todd; Sierah and Adam; Koryn Brown and fiancé, Christopher; Jocolyn Harrison, Deashawn Harrison, Nicholas Harrison, Thomas Geary, Matthew Geary, Shawn Geary, Jennifer Geary and Sarah; three great-grandchildren; a very special niece, Jean "Reg" Geary, Scranton; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Edward F. Geary Jr.; two sisters, Elizabeth McGee and Ann Shirley Davies; and two brothers, Thomas and Matthew Mott.

The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. from the McGoff-Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 1401 Capouse Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 in Immaculate Conception Church, Taylor Avenue, Scranton, to be celebrated by a very special friend, Monsignor Michael Delaney. Interment St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
