Mary L. Gillar, 83, of Olyphant, died Sunday morning in Mid-Valley Hospital, Blakely. She was the widow of Walter Gillar, who died in 1973.
Born in Old Forge, daughter of the late Francis and Sophia Costa Tigue, she was a graduate of St. Ann's High School in West Scranton. Before retirement, she was a quality-control inspector for Lockheed Martin in Archbald.
She taught her family the true meaning of love, strength and a courageous spirit through her example. Her smile and tenderness will remain in the hearts of all whose lives she touched.
She is survived by three sons, Allen and wife, Zaleha Gillar, Fontana, Calif.; Frank and wife, Sandy Gillar, Riverview, Fla.; and Robert "RJ" and wife, Amy Gillar, Fullerton, Calif.; two daughters, Marilou and husband, Frank Frederick, Olyphant; and Laura Gillar, Olyphant; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be private and at the convenience of the family. There will be no public calling hours.
