Mary M. Holmes

Mary M. Holmes, 82, of Greentown, died Tuesday in Commonwealth Hospice, Scranton. She was the wife of James A. Holmes, at home.

Born in Woodside, Queens, N.Y., she lived in Greentown since 1997 and before that in South Farmingdale, N.Y. Mary was bookkeeper for Suray Distribution Co. before her retirement. She was a former Girl Scout and Cub Scout leader and band mom and was a member of the Tobyhanna-Newfoundland Lions Club.

She is also survived by two daughters, Kathaleen (Steven) Nelson, Farmingdale, N.Y.; and Colleen (Scott) Beyer, Slidell, La.; two sons, James G. (Victoria), Stroudsburg; and John G. (Patricia), Draper, Utah; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Fitzpatrick, Levittown, N.Y.; and Nancy Carver, Harrington, Maine; a brother, William Sullivan, Centerport, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by the Rev. Alfred Vito, Monday at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Anthony, Newfoundland. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling.

Friends may call Sunday, 4 to 7 p.m., in the Arthur J. Frey Funeral Home, 201 LaAnna Road, South Sterling.
