Mary Melnick Provini

Mary Melnick Provini of Scranton died Monday afternoon in Gino Merli Veterans Center, Scranton. Her husband of 63 years, Paul A. Provini Sr., died Nov. 10, 2008.

Born and educated in Scranton, daughter of the late Michael and Kathryn Lavitsky Melnick, she was a member of St. Lucy's Church, Scranton.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother whose life was centered around her family. She enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling and supporting the New York Yankees. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends.

Mary's family would like to express its sincere gratitude to the entire staff of the Gino Merli Veterans Center and also the entire staff of Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their excellent care and love given to their mom.

Surviving are three children, Mary Louise Keating and husband, James, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Paul Provini Jr. and wife, Deborah, South Bound Brook, N.J.; and Domenica Argonish and husband, John M., Old Forge; five grandchildren, John, Mark, Nikole, Jamie and Mari; eight great-grandchildren, J, Cyril, Kalvin, Gina, Christopher, Nicholas, Jack and Katie Louise; nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Kathryn Argonish; and two brothers, John and Alex Melnick.

The funeral will be Thursday from the Carl J. Savino Funeral Home, 157 S. Main Ave., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Lucy's Church, 949 Scranton St., Scranton. Interment Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
