Mary Obal

Mary Obal, 95, of Bethlehem, died on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012.

She was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Allentown, daughter of the late Metro and Josephine Garbowski Vasievich. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Walter L. Obal. She retired from General Electric in 1980 after 27 years of service.

Mary will be dearly missed by her daughter, Maryjane Newman and her husband, Samuel, of Stroudsburg, Pa.; son, W. Douglas Obal and his wife, Sue, of Vail, Ariz.; her sister, Josephine Obal of Bethlehem; sister-in-law, Sylvia Chuprun of Taylor, Pa.; as well as four grandchildren, David Obal, Dwight Obal, Tanya Kozaria and Megan Holmberg; and seven great-grandchildren. She also had many dear and loyal friends.

She was also predeceased by her grandson, Doug Obal; sisters, Stephanie Kauffman and Anna Timko; and brothers, Joseph Vasievich and John Vasievich.

A visitation will be held at the Connell Funeral Home, 245 E. Broad St., Bethlehem, Pa., from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 5, 2012 and again on Tuesday from 8:15 to 9:15 a.m., immediately followed by Panachida in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m.

Office of Christian Burial will be celebrated, 10 a.m., on Tuesday at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 1826 Kenmore Ave., Bethlehem, PA 18018. Burial will follow at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church and/or Care Alternative Hospice, 501 Office Center Drive, Suite 285, Fort Washington, PA 19034.
