Michael (Iron Mike) Ciocca, 82, a longtime resident of West Scranton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, in his daughter's home in Clarks Summit on Wednesday. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kunigunda (Connie) Ciocca, who passed away in 1988.
Born April 11, 1930, in Edge Hill, Pa., son of the late Frank and Mary Julian Ciocca. He attended West Scranton High School. Mike served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the Infantry during the Korean War
. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany). He was a member of Local Union 130 and before retiring worked as a laborer for Van MOR Plastering Co. He was a faithful member of Green Ridge Assembly of God Church for over 50 years. He served as Vice President and then Treasurer of the Scranton Chapter of the Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship International. He loved to bowl and played on several teams. He will always be remembered with love and fondness as a generous man who worked hard all his life to provide for those he loved.

Mike is survived by his nine children, Michael and wife, Judy, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Frank, Scranton; Thomas, Scranton; John; Delores (Dee) and husband, Charlie, Clarks Summit; Maria Jenkins, Scranton and fiancé, Joe Wentline, Dunmore; Mark and wife, Tiffany, Taylor; Deborah and husband, Matthew, Fleetville; Karen and husband, Joseph, Scranton; sisters, Louise Sullenberger, Clarks Summit; Ruth Race and husband, Willis, Clarks Summit; Esther Gallo and husband, John, Moosic; in-laws, Rosemarie Ciocca, Scranton; Marianne Oppawsky and Gertraud Ott of Germany; Tom Jenkins, Tunkhannock; Maryann Ciocca; fourteen grandchildren, Thomas Ciocca Jr., John Jr., Katie Ciocca, Brandon, Sara Murray, Thomas, Andrea, Michael Jenkins, Matthew, Joel, Benjamin McLaughlin, Eli, Noah, Rebekah Gerrity; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Alexis Ciocca, Ian Ciocca; one great-great-grandchild, Izayah Valenteen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mike also has extended family in Germany whom he loved and was close to.
Mike was also preceded in death by one brother, David Ciocca.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday at 10:00 a.m. in the Parker Hill Community Church, 933 Scranton Carbondale Highway, Scranton, with service by Pastor Paul Bell. Interment will follow at Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst Township.
